The original WLA-28 has become a favourite around the world. Dual 8” drivers, extreme SPL capabilities and an impressive price to performance ratio has meant that WLA-28 can be found on stage, on tour and in fixed installations.

The newly updated WLA-28X now takes that power and performance to a new level. With an improved HF compression driver, new flat grille design and improved HF protection circuitry, the WLA-28X is ready to impress.

The new custom designed HF compression driver now delivers more control and more definition to the HF content.

The flat grille face also makes life easier for rental companies and improves long-term durability.

About the clarity

The new neo HF compression driver delivers additional clarity and performance with enhanced definition.


It is custom made by Wharfedale Pro and is coupled to a 100° x 10° waveguide.

Dual 8"

At the heart of the WLA-28X are 2 x 8″ custom Wharfedale Pro LF drivers.

These feature 2.0″ voice coils to ensure high efficiency and high power handling.

These custom designed transducers are what give a WLA-28X system its incredible sound and power handling capacity.

Optional FLY FRAMES

Arrays can be assembled using only WLA-28X line array elements or with WLA-15B / WLA-28SUB Subwoofers at the top of the array.

The WLA-28X Common Fly frame supports up to 12 x WLA-28X elements and a WLA-28SUB.

Optimised Ground Stacking

WLA-28X rigging doubles up as an optimised ground stacking system, using the WLA-15B or WLA-28SUB subwoofer as a base.

Arrays of WLA-28X line array elements can be aimed downwards by as much as 10° to cover audience areas close to a stage, as well as upward by as much as 10° in order to better cover distant balcony seating areas. 

"Wheely" useful

With the WLA-28 Dolly Frame, manoeuvrability is now an added feature.

The steel frame acts both as a common fly frame for flying situations AND as a dolly for ground stacking.

3 outriggers add stability to a ground stack allowing up to a maximum of 1 x WLA-28SUB plus 4 x WLA-28X’s to be configured.  Adding extra versatility to any WLA-28X system

Bi-amp & passive

In BI-AMP mode, two power amplifiers can be used. This gives you the advantage of being able to select the best power amplifier specifications for each driver inside the loudspeaker. In a BI-AMP configuration, an external crossover is used to separate the frequencies and this splits the signal to the dedicated LF amplifier and the HF amplifier. This way, each amplifier is only working on the given frequency range and, in turn, is powering the corresponding driver inside the loudspeaker.

In PASSIVE mode, a single amplifier can be used to power all drivers inside the loudspeaker. The full frequency range is put into the loudspeaker and the loudspeakers’ internal crossover separates the frequencies, delivering the right frequencies to the right driver. In the example of a 2-way passive loudspeaker, this means that the single amplifier is powering both the HF compression driver and the LF transducer. The internal crossover takes care of both the frequency and power separation.

Optional TOUR BAGS

Protect your WLA array system with the WLA-28X tourbags.

Removeable panels and front grille allow the WLA element to be used even while in its protective padded covering. Ideal for rental and touring applications, these tourbags will keep your system safe and protected during its hardworking lifespan!

AMPS & DSP

A Versadrive DSP (such as SC-48 FIR) or a DP-N or DP-F series amplifier with internal FIR filtering is highly recommended to get the most from the system.  Phase, EQ and filtering should be applied and this way, the physics of the system can be truly optimised – delivering that sub-bass, power and clarity that this system can deliver.
